Course Description: 

Sports massage is a combination of special forms of massage developed to help physically active people, athletes, and those with high levels of stress to reach their peak performance.

Sport’s massage can effectively assist in eliminating stress, restoring energy, and rejuvenating fatigued muscles.  It also facilitates the healing processes after injuries, helps to prevent injuries, and assists in providing positive psychological benefits to the person. Sport massage is a valuable tool that massage therapist can use during every massage session.

Students will learn:

  • A brief history and classification of Sports massage.
  • An overview of a variety of sport massage techniques and strokes that are used to stimulate or relax muscles (Pre-, Inter-, Post-event massage).
  • Anatomy and physiology related to these techniques.
  • Common causes and elimination of spasms and cramps.
  • The influence of heat and cold on human performance.
  • The Potential for more business.
  • Students will be actively involved in hands on practice.

Instructor Bio:

Samuel Blechman, LMT is a massage therapy instructor and course developer for the massage therapy degree program at The Community College of Baltimore County Essex.

Samuel is a member of the Maryland Professional Sport Massage Team and a former coach of Russian Olympic athletes.

He is a successful entrepreneur in private practice in Baltimore, Maryland.
